“Sounding Together”: First Contribution to the Journal Section “Forum”

2026-09-11

M&M’s new “Forum” section opens with “Sounding Together: A Conversation with Musicians from the Jewish-Palestinian Peace Initiative Standing Together Vienna.” Edited and with an introduction by the ethnomusicologist and Yiddish singer Isabel Frey, the text documents a conversation between her and the musicians Marwan Abado, Natalie Adler-Oppenheim, Golnar Shahyar, and Sakîna Têyna about their participation in Standing Together Vienna and the role of music in the initiative. Audio and video recordings of the performances discussed accompany the text. The full contribution can be read here: https://doi.org/10.52413/mm.2026.55

M&M launched “Forum” as a space for contributions that do not fall into the established categories of peer-reviewed articles or reviews, yet are of lasting value to the field of music and minority studies. Contributions may include, but are not limited to, interviews with musicians and cultural activists, concise position statements or opinion pieces on current debates in the field, “call & response” formats, or more experimental kinds of writing on issues within M&M’s scope. Proposals for “Forum” contributions are welcome at mm-journal@mdw.ac.at. See the “Instructions for Authors” for further details.
